First Time Vegetable Garden

I thought I would try and grow some vegetables this summer. I've never done that before, and I've been looking on the web for some tips. Found lots of tips for flower gardens, not that many free tips for vegetable gardens. All I want are some beans, radishes, a few tomatoes, and many some sweet corn. The sweet corn might be the kicker. I don't know if I have enough room. The radishes I can grow in a planter box from the deck railing. That will also make it impossible for the rabbits to eat them. The tomato plant can go in a large pot on the deck, and the other plants in my 4 by 8 raised garden. So far the weather has been too cool to plant anything, I still need some more dirt anyway. I hope in two weeks to get things started.

Is it Spring yet?

This has to be one of the hardest and longest winters I can remember. Finally we are having temperatures closer to the average (45). It feels so good to see the snow melt, and disappear. It's like a huge weight has been slowly lifted from my back.

Future Project

This is my old 1965 Ford pick-up. I haven't really done much with it, in the year I have owned it. It currently news a new clutch. The transmission needs to be removed to do that, I've been thinking of how I'm going to do this.

Signs of Fall

Today most of the leaves on the trees were turning color. I noticed some purple, red, and yellow leaves. I also noticed a guy standing outside his fenced yard wearing only his boxers, t-shirt, open bath robe, socks and slippers. He was holding a cup of coffee and a cigarette. He kind of ruined the image of Autum for me. At least he had of shorts.

Car Troubles

I purchased a 1965 VW bug a few months ago. The reasons I purchased the car were, it was cheap ($500), and it would get better gas mileage than the car I'm currently driving. The car has turned out to be like the free kitten you get. When you start adding up all of the money you spend for license, shots, food, toys, etc. It costs quite a bit of money. I needed to repair the rusted out holes in the body of the bug. I did that. I had to replace part of the rusted out floor, I did that. I repaired the shift linkage. Because when I purchased the car you couldn't drive it. I cleaned out the gas tank. I adjusted the valves, replaced the spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor. Changed the oil, and cleaned all of the old oil off the motor. Now the motor won't idle. The shifter won't go into 3rd gear. Even after I adjusted the clutch. The link pins in the front end need to be replaced. So I need to decide if I want to keep this money pit, or cut my losses and sell it. I best ideas, look much different after you step back and look at them.

Solar ?

I've been thinking of getting a few solar panels to play around with. The problem I have is, my homeowners association has to approve something like this. They allow you to have a small dish for TV, as long as you can't see it from the street. So I'm thinking solar panels would be hard to hide. Of course I could just do what I've been doing. Just don't ask them. I didn't ask them about the trees I planted. What would I do with the small solar unit I would buy. It would only be good enough to charge a few batteries. I might be able to run a table lamp. I need to do more research I guess.

Lazy Day

Yesterday was so nice that I decided to take it easy in the afternoon. I happened to be near a field where a crop duster was working. He was slowly flying over the crops spraying for bugs. The plane looked so effortless as it banked right then left, then driving down to the top of the crops. I happened to see a group of purple martens flying around catching bugs. Now they swooped quickly and banked sharply as they caught bugs. The crop duster just couldn't fly as smoothly or graceful as the martens.
